I have completed on August 9, 2017, initial drafting of the chapter on arbitrability and arbitral jurisdiction that I was asked to contribute to the forthcoming Practicing Law Institute (PLI) treatise on US domestic commercial arbitration. This chapter covers a wide range of subjects and includes treatment of US Supreme Court jurisprudence on allocation of power between courts and arbitrators, FAA pre-emption of state law, and scope of judicial review of arbitrators’ arbitrability decisions.

Thursday, May 18th, 2017I spoke on “Promoting Efficiency in Arbitration” as a panelist at the Toronto Commercial Arbitration Society’s Annual Conference on May 18, 2017. My remarks devoted some attention to the use of summary disposition methods in international arbitration, a subject receiving much current attention in view of the recent adoption of new rules by the Stockholm and Singapore arbitration centres.

Co-arbitrator appointment under ICDR Rules
Thursday, March 23rd, 2017I have served since January 2016 as a party-appointed co-arbitrator under the AAA International Arbitration Rules (ICDR) in a dispute in the aviation section. Merits hearings were held in New York in December 2016 and the final award was issued in March 2017.
